This privately owned chateau is normally closed to the public, but courtesy of the Toucheboeuf family it was open today for visits to the grounds. I was shown round by the son of the family and was delighted with the setting, the architecture and the history (and they are a remarkable family).
Just a 10 minute journey from Meyrals, the chateau overlooks the Dordogne river near Mouzens, and I enjoyed a stroll around the garden, visited the chapel and tombs and loved hearing the history of this remarkable family.
European Heritage Days in France can be found at http://traduction.culture.gouv.fr/url/Result.aspx?to=en&url=https://journeesdupatrimoine.culture.gouv.fr/Programme should you wish to visit this beautiful culture rich area next September.
