Chateau Milandes is a short drive from Gite Le Bois Vert, and was the home of Josephine Baker, a remarkable woman who became an overnight sensation in 1926 with her banana skirt and danse sauvage.
This remarkable woman bought and renovated the Chateau Milandes, adopted 12 children from all over the world, and worked with the French resistance during the war; smuggling messages and hiding Jewish refugees in the chateau.
Well worth a visit, the Chateau, gardens and grounds and the Josephine Baker collection are all worth visiting. Brasserie on site.
